Real Madrid are rumoured to have found a replacement for veteran midfielder Luka Modric, according to Footmercato. The Spanish giants are considering Lovro Majer of Stade Rennes, who has impressed in his first season in Ligue 1.
Throughout his career, Modric has aged like a beautiful wine, confirming his place as a true modern great of the game. His time at the Santiago Bernabeu, though, may be drawing to a close.
He will turn 37 in a few months, but after demonstrating his worth on the field in the 2021-22 season, he has agreed to a 12-month contract extension for the following season.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, is preparing for life after Modric, believing that Majer can fill his shoes and serve the club as well as his compatriot.
Rennes paid €12 million to Dinamo Zagreb for the aggressive midfielder last summer and might earn a large profit on him just a year later. His vision and execution lend a cutting-edge to the team's aggressive approach, and the 24-year-old left-footed midfielder has been recognised for his technical prowess on the ball. In 49 appearances across all competitions, he scored 11 goals and assisted on another 13 for his teammates.
PSG could compete with Real Madrid for Majer's signature.
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is gearing up for a busy summer in which they seek to add to their roster in a variety of areas, including the midfield. Majer of Stade Rennes is also on their radar, with incoming director of football Luis Campos reportedly a fan. Outgoing sporting director Leonardo, according to Footmeracto, has also been keeping an eye on Majer. Real Madrid, who are willing to spend big on other midfield targets like Aurelian Tchouameni, may face complications as a result of this.
The 24-year-agent, old's Niagara Sports Agency, has yet to confirm the Parisians' interest. Majer's current deal with the Ligue 1 team expires in 2026.
